RESPONDING to the call of G-20 in
November 2008, many tax jurisdictions worldwide are now
exchanging information in tax matters. The Global Forum on Transparency and
Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes, based at the OECD, has now
roped in 102 countries and jurisdictions. But, is
Global Forum winning the fight against international tax evasion? Which
countries exchange information to deter potential tax dodgers? How can all
countries be engaged in this effort? What are the next steps in this
initiative?
To answer these questions the OECD is going to
host an interactive session with the media persons. At this meet, the Forum
will:
+ release peer reviews on the implementation of
the global standard for Brunei Darussalam, the Former Yugoslav Republic of
Macedonia, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Japan, Jersey, Macao, China,
Malaysia, The Netherlands, Spain, Uruguay and Vanuatu;
+ release supplementary reports on the
implementation of the global standard for Mauritius, Monaco, San Marino, The
Turks and Caicos Islands and The Virgin Islands (British);
+ adopt a report to the G20 on the progress made
towards tax transparency;
+ discuss ways that small and developing countries
can implement the global standard.
