THE US
Congress has passed a bill that will overhaul the immigration system making
the tedious journey of attaining a Green Card easier for the Indians abroad.
Obtaining a permanent residence, under most common employment-based immigrant
visa category, could go up to 70 years which the Fairness for high-skilled
Immigration Act aims to eliminate. The Act focuses on removing the pre
country caps on employment based visas and creating a first come first
served based which has been greatly supported by the US House of Representatives.
The bill is also expected to be cleared by the US Senate soon.
The Act will also
raise the per country cap for 226,000 family-related Green Cards from 7%
of the total to 15%. Professionals who
have been in green card queues face a lot of problems as their spouses cannot
seek employment and their children have to fend for themselves which shall
now be eradicated with the passage of this Act.
