DIRECTOR-General Pascal Lamy, while addressing the members at the OECD Global
Forum on Competition said that strong competition policies are an essential
element of a dynamic and healthy market economy. He said that competition
policies are crucial to ensure that the benefits of trade opening are not
undermined by collusive behavior among other firms or by other anti-competitive
practices. He said that it is essential for nations to get together and ensure
that the completion policies not only contribute to development but also at the
same time it supports the framework of the world economy. Mr. Lamy emphasized
that beginning at the issue of commodity price volatility would be a positive
start for the process.
