EVEN as Jaipur hosts the 10 th Pravasi Bhartiya
Diwas (PBD) event, and a slew of coaxing schemes being rolled out to attract
NRIs, a UN-accredited Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO)
has urged Govt of India to withdraw a proposal to tax NRIs who stay beyond
60 days during a visit to India.
At
the biennial meet in the USA, the members of the organisation passed several
resolutions, including this one. It called for creating a mechanism to
enable NRIs to communicate their grievances to the Govt and prevent introduction
of adverse policy tools. It also appealed to the Indian Govt to increase
the number of staff to consulates in various countries for better service
to NRIs.
