WITH India tightening provisions relating to cross-border transactions in the recent years, the quantum of TDS u/s 195 has rocketed from Rs 4637 Cr in 2010-11 to rs 9000 Cr last fiscal.

A senior CBDT official said that a good number of such transactions have been with the USA, Netherland, the UK, France etc, and assessees have voluntarily deducted tax at source and deposited the money in government account. He also hastened to add that so much of collections have been done by Mumbai alone. The All India data is ye to be segregated and compiled.
