WITH India not paying heed to British Chancellor of Exchequer George
Osborne's plea in the Vodafone case, it seems the British Minister has decided
to do the same on the proposed Social Security Agreement. It is learnt that the
UK has said NO to sign this agreement, which could have given relief to
thousands of Indian professionals seeking exemption from contributions in both
the countries.
The
UK has communicated to India that it was not possible to sign such a pact due to
tight fiscal conditions.
MoF
officials told TIOL that the social security contribution by short-term Indian
workers in the UK is an unnecessary burden, which amounts to huge receipt for
the UK Treasury.
