IN a significant policy move to grant more relief to expatriate
employees working in India, the Ministry of Labour has widened the scope of
'excluded employee' for the purpose of making contribution to the EPF
Scheme.
As
per the latest amendment, foreign workers, seconded from a country having
Comprehensive Economic Agreement with India, will also be eligible for such
exclusion provided:
++
the employee has been contributing to a social security fund in his/her home
country;
++ the agreement exempts
natural persons of either country to contribute to SSF of the host
country;
++ the agreement should be entered into prior
October 1, 2008.
