INDONESIA has notified the WTO Secretariat of a request
for initiation of consultations with the European Union with respect to the
imposition of definitive and provisional anti-dumping measures by the European
Union on the importation of fatty alcohols from Indonesia. In the request, Indonesia refers to a possible inconsistency of the
measures with the Anti-Dumping Agreement and the General Agreement on Tariffs
and Trade (GATT 1994) provisions.
The
request for consultations formally initiates a dispute in the WTO. Consultations
give the parties an opportunity to discuss the matter and arrive at a
satisfactory solution without initiating litigation. If the consultations have
failed to resolve the dispute within a period of 60 days of its initiation, the
complainant may request adjudication by a panel.
