THE OECD is going to launch a new global portal on product
recalls during the International Product Safety Week from Oct 19 at
Brussels.
The
online portal will give consumers, business and governments quick and easy
admission to the latest information on products recalled from markets in
Australia, Canada, Europe and the United States. It is intended to promote and
improve product safety. The data collected revealed that deaths and injuries
worldwide from unsafe products are estimated to cost more than USD 1 trillion
each year.
The
focus of the conference will be on risk assessment methodology, results, and the
decisions or action proposed based on the findings. Today unparalleled attention
is being given to consumer product safety. Many of the significant challenges we
face will have been highlighted throughout the conference. It will provide
opportunity to reflect on these challenges and the issues that need to be
addressed to further enhance consumer product safety in an increasingly global
marketplace.
