THE EPFO has issued a major clarification on eligibility
conditions for Indians going to work abroad and qualify as an International
Worker. Netizens may recall the EPFO had in May this year clarified that an
Indian outbound employee, who avails exemption from making contributon in the
other country by getting a Certificate of Coverage (COC) in India and chips in
to the social security system in India, will not be covered as an International
Worker.
Now,
in the latest clarifications, the EPFO has laid down the
following conditions to qualify as an International Worker:
+ the
Indian employee should have worked in a country with which India has a Social
Security Agreement (SSA);
+ the Indian employee is likely to join the SSA
network of that country.
In
view of these changes, the EPFO has amended the Form 11 in this
regard.
