IN a
crackdown on online advertisers of questionable pharmaceutical drugs, Google,
the popular search engine, has taken one individual and 50 others to court.
Google filed a federal lawsuit in a US district court on Septemer 21,
2010, to block ‘rogue online pharmacies' from preying on its customers.
According to Google, the accused violated policies and circumvented
technological measures and tight advertiser verification processes, to use its
adwords program to illegally promote prescription drugs online without the
necessary verification and authentication, thereby breaking the contract.
This
is probably the first serious attempt to restrict online fraudsters from using
its extensive internet network.
