THERE are millions of shell
companies that operate on the basis of Post Box Nos from tax havens. The
greatest challenge for governments across the world is to know their actual
beneficiaries. The UK has recently introduced the system of Public Register
to declare such names of beneficial ownership. But the EU Parliament is
divided over the issue.
To
eradicate the culture of anonymous shell companies, an European legislation
is going to be put to vote next week. To sensitise European Parliamentarians
different forums have launched campaigns, including the one of sending
e-postcards. If the new legislation is passed, the days of shell companies
would be numbered.
