WITH a
Hanuman-jump in the FDI inflows and cross-border transactions in the recent
years, including those from the tax-havens, the Government has finally woken up
to the reality to post fairly senior officers in some of the strategic countries
for gathering intelligence for income tax investigation. Netizens may recall
that the Govt had earlier sanctioned overseas posts in Singapore and Mauritius.
CBDT had proposed creation of many more Income Tax Overseas Units (ITOUs), and
the same was approved for the countries like the USA, the UK, the Netherlands,
Germany, France, Japan and UAE. With the Cabinet sanction obtained for these
posts, the Finance Minister has now given his nod to the Posting Policy for
ITOUs.
As
per the policy now announced, IRS officers of the rank of JCIT/Add CIT only are
eligible to apply for these posts through the channel of FT & TR-1 in the
Board. The Board is now going to invite applications from eligible officers, and
the same will be processed by the Evaluation Committee headed by JS (FT &
TR-1).
