IN an interesting development in the much-talked
about black money PIL, the Supreme Court Bench of Justice B Sudarshan
Reddy and Justice S S Nijjar today asked the Union Government about the
lack of willingness in disclosing the names of persons who have allegedly
kept huge black money in the vault of banks in Liechtenstein in Europe.
The
Bench asked that 'What is the privilege' in not disclosing the names which
has been provided by the German tax authorities. The Court observed
that it was not a matter of tax alone. It was much more serious in nature. At
this stage, the Solicitor General, Mr Gopal Subramanium, asked for some
time so that he could take instructions from the Government. The Apex Court
has fixed coming Wednesday as the next date for hearing.
