ACCORDING to an 85-page report produced by the Gaming trade body TIGA,
if the video games industry was granted a tax relief, the UK Treasury would
stand to earn £200 million ($320 million) over five years through hundreds of
jobs and millions of pounds of investment alone. Although, the tax benefit would
cost the government £ 194 million to introduce, the tax receipts would bring in
overall gains amounting to nearly £400 million. More than 3000 development jobs
could be safeguarded in addition to the investment receipts. This report was a
revised version of the document originally submitted to the Labour government in
2008.
The
video games industry known for its big titles like Tomb Raider contributes more
than £1bn annually to the UK GDP.
