WHILE replying to a question in the Parliament
yesterday, the MoS(R), Mr S S Palanimanickam, said that Mauritius has started
sending information related to black money, and the same was being examined.
"The
information given by the government of Mauritius in response to requests
under the India-Mauritius DTAC during the current financial year is under
examination," said the Minister.
However,
he said that Mauritius is yet to reply to an Indian request for discussing
amendments in the DTAC to curb misuse of the tax treaty. He stressed that
if Mauritius agreed to amend Article 26, India would get bank details and
other information for investigation into black money cases.
The
Minister pointed out that ''There
was unwillingness on the part of Mauritius to cooperate in addressing this problem.
We have now proposed the next round of discussions to which Mauritius is yet
to respond.''
